Abstract

In deze repliek op het BMGN-forum over het onderzoeksprogramma over Nederlands geweld tijdens de Indonesische Onafhankelijkheidsoorlog (ODGOI) willen wij ingaan op vier punten waarop de kritiek van de auteurs zich voornamelijk richt, namelijk: de vraagstelling en de opzet van het programma; de samenwerking met Indonesië en ruimte voor Indonesische perspectieven; de dynamiek binnen de Nederlandse onderzoeksgroep; en ten slotte de gebruikte terminologie. Wij besluiten deze bijdrage met een blik op de toekomst.

Gert Oostindie, Royal Netherlands Institute of Southeast Asian and Caribbean Studies

Gert Oostindie is emeritus hoogleraar koloniale en postkoloniale geschiedenis aan de Universiteit Leiden en voormalig directeur van het KITLV / Koninklijk Nederlands Instituut voor Taal-, Land- en Volkenkunde. Hij publiceerde uitgebreid over koloniale en postkoloniale geschiedenis. Op verzoek van Z.M. Koning Willem-Alexander geeft hij op dit moment leiding aan een grootschalig onderzoeksproject (2023-2026) over de rol van het Huis Oranje-Nassau in de Nederlandse koloniale geschiedenis. Ben Schoenmaker, Leiden University

Ben Schoenmaker is directeur van het Nederlandse Instituut voor Militaire Historie in Den Haag. Vanaf 2012 tot 2024 was hij als bijzonder hoogleraar militaire geschiedenis verbonden aan de Universiteit Leiden. Zijn onderzoek richt zich op de relatie tussen de samenleving en de krijgsmacht in Nederland tijdens de negentiende en twintigste eeuw. Over dit onderwerp handelde ook zijn proefschrift Burgerzin en soldatengeest. De relatie tussen volk, leger en vloot 1832-1914 (2009). E-mail: b.schoenmaker@hum.leidenuniv.nl.
Frank van Vree, NIOD Institute for War, Holocaust and Genocide Studies

Frank van Vree is emeritus hoogleraar geschiedenis van oorlog, conflict en herinnering aan de Universiteit van Amsterdam en geaffilieerd onderzoeker aan het NIOD Instituut voor Oorlogs-, Holocaust- en Genocidestudies. Eerder was hij directeur van het NIOD en decaan van de Faculteit Geesteswetenschappen aan de UvA. Zijn huidig onderzoek is gericht op de geschiedenis van Europa in de periode 1914-1945, alsook op de studie van herinneringscultuur. Zijn meest recente monografie is getiteld Nederland en de herinnering aan de Jodenvervolging 1945-2024 (2024). E-mail: frank@vanvree.nl.
