BMGN – Low Countries Historical Review is committed to uphold the highest standards of quality and integrity in all its publications. The editors will take reasonable steps to identify and prevent the publication of contributions where research misconduct has occurred, including (self-)plagiarism, citation manipulation, data falsification/fabrication, et cetera. In no case shall this journal or its editors encourage such misconduct, or knowingly allow such misconduct to take place.

BMGN – Low Countries Historical Review adheres to the best practices in the ethics of scholarly publishing stated in the COPE’s (Committee on Publication Ethics) Code of Conduct and Best Practice Guidelines for all parties involved: Authors, Reviewers and the Publisher. The Editorial Board of BMGN – Low Countries Historical Review undertakes to publish all corrections, clarifications, retractions and apologies as soon as possible if and when they are required.

Authors are obliged to ensure that the submission has not been previously published, that permission has been obtained for the use of copyrighted material and that they do not infringe on the rights of third parties.

Conflict of Interest

To ensure a reliable and open publication process, all authors, reviewers and editors are required to declare any interests that could appear to compromise, conflict or influence the validity of the publication.

Peer Review

BMGN – Low Countries Historical Review follows a thorough, double-blind, peer review procedure, by external reviewers for all its research articles. The anonymity of authors and reviewers will be monitored with the utmost care. Publications of a commentary or opinionated nature may not be sent for external peer review but will include extensive editorial review and revision.

Archiving

To ensure permanency of all publications, this journal utilises the Portico digital preservation service to create permanent archives for the purposes of preservation and restoration. BMGN – Low Countries Historical Review fully supports and encourages author self-archiving of all content. This journal is registered with SHERPA/RoMEO to ensure that the license terms and self-archiving policy of the journal is clear.

Journal Images

BMGN – Low Countries Historical Review contains several free of use images and materials. Every effort has been made to trace rights holders, but if any have been inadvertently overlooked, the publishers would be pleased to make the necessary arrangements at the first opportunity.

Objectionable Content

The editors will take reasonable steps to identify and prevent the publication of papers containing objectionable content, meaning content that infringes any applicable laws, regulations or third party rights, and content which is obscene, indecent, pornographic, seditious, offensive, defamatory, threatening, liable to incite racial hatred, menacing, blasphemous, misleading or deceptive. In no case shall this journal or its editors encourage such objectionable content, or knowingly allow such objectionable content to be published. If, nevertheless, you encounter content you find objectionable, you can report it in writing to bmgn@huygens.knaw.nl. As the author of the paper in question is ultimately responsible for the content of their paper, your report will be forwarded to the author; and they shall provide you with a response. If the author finds that your report provides them with a legitimate reason to amend their paper and/or to post a rectification, the journal shall facilitate such amendment and/or rectification without undue delay.
