Het aanbieden van historische excuses lijkt tegenwoordig van uitzondering tot regel te zijn geworden. Dergelijke morele verontschuldigingen worden gecompliceerd door de erkenning van politieke, juridische en financiële verantwoordelijkheid. De vertaling van deze officiële schuldbelijdenissen naar een praktische politics of regret leidt vaak tot teleurstellingen.

Nowadays offering historical apologies seems to be the rule. Such moral admissions of guilt are complicated by the acknowledgement of political, legal and financial responsibilities. The conversion of official repentance into a practical politics of regret often leads to emotional disappointment.
