Epiloog: Historische strips
Een relationele kunstvorm

Deze epiloog plaatst de bijdragen aan het forum ‘Geschiedenis & strips. Historische beeldverhalen in de Lage Landen’ in dialoog met bredere ontwikkelingen binnen dit veelzijdige genre, met name in Frankrijk en de Verenigde Staten, en schetst een lange geschiedenis die teruggaat tot Gustave Doré’s eigenzinnige Histoire de la Sainte Russie. Door te benadrukken hoe strips zowel de geschiedenis zelf als de geschiedschrijving kunnen problematiseren en tegelijkertijd nieuwe, alternatieve perspectieven op officiële narratieven kunnen bieden, pleit deze bijdrage ervoor om strips niet alleen als een sequentiële kunstvorm te benaderen, maar ook als een relationele kunst, met het potentieel om nieuwe verbanden bloot te leggen, veelal door de aandacht te vestigen op de menselijke en emotionele facetten van het verleden.
