Abstract

In dit essay evalueert historicus Henk de Smaele zijn bijdrage aan een aflevering van de serie Het verhaal van Vlaanderen. Hij weegt zijn oordeel over deze samenwerking af en plaatst deze binnen de complexe Belgisch-Vlaamse politieke en culturele context en binnen het format van een televisieproductie.

In this essay, historian Henk de Smaele evaluates his contribution to an episode of the series The story of Flanders. While assessing this collaboration, he relates it to the complex Belgian-Flemish political and cultural context and the format of a television production.

Author Biography

Henk de Smaele, University of Antwerp

Henk de Smaele is verbonden aan de onderzoeksgroep Power in History van het Antwerpse geschiedenisdepartement. Hij doceert over hedendaagse politieke geschiedenis en cultuurgeschiedenis. Zijn onderzoek heeft momenteel vooral betrekking op de geschiedenis van gender en seksualiteit (met een focus op mannelijkheid), maar ook op de geschiedenis van de interculturele contacten tussen Europa en het Midden-Oosten. Hij is tevens co-voorzitter van het Archief voor Vrouwengeschiedenis (Brussel). E-mail: Henk.desmaele@uantwerpen.be.
