Oproep tot voorstellen voor een themanummer in BMGN – Low Countries Historical Review 2027
De redactie van BMGN – Low Countries Historical Review nodigt u uit om een voorstel in te dienen voor een themanummer dat in diamond open access en in druk gepubliceerd kan worden in december 2027. Een themanummer bij BMGN bestaat uit een inleiding en 4 artikelen van 8000 woorden (incl. voetnoten), ofwel uit een inleiding en 6 artikelen van 5000 woorden (incl. voetnoten). De onderzoeksartikelen zijn steeds gebaseerd op primair bronnenonderzoek op basis waarvan de analyse een vernieuwende bijdrage levert aan de bestaande historiografie.
Gastredacteurs spelen een belangrijke rol bij het stand komen van een themanummer. Zij nemen het voortouw in het uitwerken van een voorstel, zoeken geschikte auteurs, leggen de inhoud en de planning steeds voor aan de redactie, bewaken de inhoudelijke coherentie van het nummer als geheel, en begeleiden auteurs tijdens het schrijf- en herwerkingsproces.
Heeft u als gastredacteur(s) een voorstel voor een innovatief themanummer over Belgische en/of Nederlandse geschiedenis en/of hun wereldwijde aanwezigheid, leg dit voorstel dan voor aan de redactie van BMGN vóór 5 juni 2026. Dit voorstel bestaat uit een synopsis van max. 500 woorden waarin u toelicht in welke historiografische debatten het themanummer zich inschrijft, op welke manier het nummer deze discussie nieuwe richtingen zal insturen, en hoe de verschillende artikelen daartoe zullen bijdragen. Vervolgens levert u de namen van 4 of 6 bijdragende auteurs die elk een kort abstract van hun artikel meesturen van max. 300 woorden.

Call for proposals for a special issue at BMGN – Low Countries Historical Review in 2027
The editorial board of BMGN – Low Countries Historical Review invites you to submit a proposal for a special issue to be published in diamond open access and in print in December 2027. A special issue of BMGN consists either of an introduction and 4 articles of 8,000 words (including footnotes), or an introduction and 6 articles of 5,000 words (including footnotes). Research articles are always based on the research of primary sources, and the analysis they offer is an innovative contribution to existing historiography.
Guest editors play an important role in the creation of a special issue. They take the lead in developing a proposal, recruit suitable authors, regularly present the content and planning to the editorial board, ensure the coherence of the issue as a whole, and guide authors throughout the writing and revision process.
If you, as guest editor(s), have a proposal for an innovative special issue on Belgian and/or Dutch history and/or their global presence, please submit it to the editorial board of BMGN before 5 June 2026. The proposal should consist of a synopsis of no more than 500 words, explaining which historiographical debates the special issue engages with, how it will open up new directions in these discussions, and how the individual articles will contribute to this aim. In addition, please provide the names of 4 or 6 contributing authors, each accompanied by a short abstract of their article of no more than 300 words.
